Wood Badge combines nationally recognized leadership principles with the values and mission of Scouting. Participants gain practical skills in communication, team development, conflict resolution, project planning, servant leadership, and leading change. The course delivers the caliber of leadership training found in professional executive development programs while providing real-world applications specifically designed for Scouting volunteers and leaders.
Wood Badge challenges participants to think beyond the present and focus on the long-term impact they can have on Scouting. Through the Wood Badge experience, participants create and implement meaningful projects that strengthen units, support future leaders, and leave lasting improvements for youth and volunteers. The skills learned in Wood Badge help leaders build a legacy that continues to benefit Scouting long after their course experience ends.
Our staff members are highly qualified and experienced Scout leaders who are passionate about developing the next generation of Scouting leaders. Every staff member has completed Wood Badge as a participant and has received additional training to serve on staff. They have been where you are and understand the challenges and rewards of leading youth. Most importantly, they are dedicated volunteers who enjoy sharing their knowledge, experience, and leadership skills with fellow Scout leaders.
Wood Badge is an interactive, hands-on leadership course that combines engaging presentations, team activities, games, discussions, and practical exercises. Rather than sitting through lectures, participants learn by doing, working together, and applying leadership concepts in real-world scenarios. Throughout the course, you'll also enjoy fellowship with fellow Scout leaders, building friendships and a network of resources that will continue long after the course ends.
As a leader in your home unit you should have a full Field (Class A) uniform so it is also required for Wood Badge.
The cost is $260 if paid by the December 17th, 2026. After that the cost goes up to $290. This covers the camping costs for both weekends, food and course materials including two Wood Badge Course shirts and a hat. Additional shirts can be purchased at registration.
It is highly suggested that you register as soon as possible. The course does get full and once we reach capacity, there is a wait list. Register early to save $30.
No. The course is broken into patrols and it is unlikely that you will be in the same patrol with your spouse, so each of you will need a tent.
You must complete each training session to receive credit for the course. If there is a possibility that you may be late, it should be discussed with the Course Director in advance to see if we can accommodate.
Yes! We can accommodate most food allergies and dietary restrictions, but it's important that you let us know in advance. During registration, please provide details about any food allergies, medical dietary needs, or religious dietary restrictions so we can plan accordingly. Our meals are simple, and we keep substitute food options available to help ensure that every participant has safe, satisfying meals throughout the course. No one should go hungry at Wood Badge!
Every Wood Badge course is built upon the dedication, vision, and service of those who came before us. For generations, Course Directors have shaped the Wood Badge experience by inspiring adult leaders to strengthen Scouting through servant leadership, teamwork, and personal growth. This course proudly continues that tradition. We honor the leaders who guided the previous five Wood Badge courses in the South Florida Council and recognize their contributions to the thousands of youth and adults they have impacted through Scouting.

The Wood Badge theme and colors are more than a design choice… they tell a story of purpose, leadership, growth, and embracing every moment of the Wood Badge journey. One of the things that makes Wood Badge so special is the Course Director -- they set the vibe, they set the theme, and they set the colors. This year the Course Director is… drumroll please… Hamid Mortazavi from the Everglades District.
As we begin our journey toward the 2027 Wood Badge, we want to share the heart behind Hamid’s theme: Carpe Diem "Pluck the Day.” Many people think of it as "Seize the Day,” but Horace's original meaning wasn't about force. It was about gathering each moment gently, like fruit perfectly ripened in its time. To pluck the day is to live fully in the moment -- and that spirit is exactly what we hope to model for our participants, and ultimately the youth we serve.
Our course colors purple & yellow come from Hamid’s own youth: Yellow was the color of the convertible Mustang or Porsche Hamid dreamed of. Purple was the suit his mother put on layaway so he could walk proudly at his graduation. Less than a year later, someone told Hamid to "conform” and wear only black, gray, or navy suits so adults would take him seriously. These colors remind us of why we're here: to help young people hold onto who they are, not who the world tells them to be.
